Sept of Sleeping Lore

The PC pack

Who knows what havoc they will cause? The shadow knows.

Kasumi Umino

Female, Homid, Ragabash, Glass Walker
Roughly translated as Mist of the Ocean
Born: May 20th 1985

First garou in the family in about 50 years. John Connor, an American Glasswalker, came to Japan shortly after the second world war and had a bastard child with a fisherman's daughter in rural southern japan. John was not aware of the child, thus this line of his family was never closely followed. Kasumi came to Australia about 3 years ago as part of a specialized Intern program for Toyota for those proficient in English with lots of potential. She was kept on in the Melbourne office for her excellent work. None of her family members are aware they're kinfolk, no idea they are part of the garou blood line. Feels an affinity to water spirits (possibly ocean, but I don't want D to worry about weresharks :D)

Resources: I believe I had 2 dots, possibly 3? I don't remember. At the moment a nice apartment on my own, still working most days at Toyota, will probably ask for a consulting position once a pack is formed so I can devote more time to the sept. Stuff: I live in the city, so I mostly do public transport. I have a Japanese license driver's license, I believe I can go for an Australia one. Most of my items are work related (nice clothes, a laptop, a tablet, nice mobile phone, one or two family heirlooms which are most likely NOT werewolf related due to background, some nice jewelry). Also I can have either a permanent residency or long term visa. Long term means I stay in Australia indefinitely, or until work wants me back in Japan.

First change: Basically I saw my village being destroyed on national television. I was doing some late night work at home, turned on the television, after watching what happened I walked into the bathroom, screamed (because I'm a polite Japanese woman who does her best to keep her emotions private) and then I remember waking up on the beach at about 3am, still a bit 'furry' from my escapade with no clothes or items. I found an abandoned towel and called the police, I told them I'd been mugged and they brought me home. For a month I thought my blackout must have been a dream, and then at a publicity dinner at Melbourne Uni/Zoo I found some sept members. Or rather, they found me. I was invited to meet the gang and have been trying to integrate myself into the sept for the last...6 months-ish? From the sound of it I probably get on quite well with Finn and Will, pretty well with Eli's character and Matilda might scare me a bit o_o (I have a very firm respect for her, she is very tough but kind of a scary personality.)

Appearance: Pale skin, brown eyes, black hair usually in a bun or low ponytail. 4' 11", small build, normally wear high heels to work and business get up of blouse/jacket/skirt. In downtime I wear black pants and a plain white blouse (and boy, do i have A LOT of plain white blouses). Reserved, respectful, quiet, but when spoken to can really open up with ideas and different opinions. More of a watcher than a speaker. As a wolf I think she might have a nice dark grey coat with a blue-ish tint.

Contacts: I remember one of my contacts was a friend from uni/home town who is now a doctor near Box Hill, I can't remember what the other one was, I think a librarian.

Why this pack? I'd like to think that I met one of the other players at Melbourne Uni or Melbourne Zoo, but if not I'm okay with going along the lines of 'We are the ones not in a pack, so maybe we're supposed to make a pack, like wandering Ronin etc.' She'd probably go with whoever found her first really, as she probably sees that person as 'guiding' her through the whole ordeal. The glasswalkers already in the sept don't sound appealing :/, and she doesn't really have an allegiance to the tribe as her family doesn't even know they're kinfolk.

What's a day: At the moment I go to work most days Mon-Fri 10-4 (I'm the most senior junior, or head junior officer, so I supervise and make sure the other juniors are pulling their weight while I go off to have lunches and meetings with more senior people and the occasional publicity dinner etc. as well as investigating potential partners and technologies), but I'm feeling the pressure of keeping up with sept duties. As I'm told the apocalypse is coming, I've probably saved up enough funds to continue my lifestyle for a year or so, more if I move in with another sept member, and thus can take on more of a 'consultant' position to devote more time to the sept. Otherwise I like going to the aquarium when things get too heavy, or a nice ramen house in chinatown that's run by Koreans :D

Long term goal: Survive the Apocalypse? Is that even possible?

Matilda Ann Kennedy

aka: Tillie/Tilda,
Female, Metis, Ahroun, Shadow Lord
Birthday: 8/8/1998

Background: Tillie was born, to her knowledge, somewhere in the western world. A metis, she knows very little of her parents - she was sent to a Shadowlord sept in Tasmania at an early age and her only impressions were that her parents were not to be spoken about and that she was unwanted - the only thing they ever gave her was a name. She was treated as a nuisance at best and downright scum of the earth at worst, and learnt very quickly how to fight and when to dodge. Her first change was early and typically violent, and she upped and left soon after, with little more than her bike, some leathers, and a backpack to her name. Having heard murmurs of the mainland being perhaps more accepting than rural (that is, all of) Tasmania, she made her way there, starting in Sydney with a kinfolk biker gang and generally learning the ways of human society and how to fight. Both as a metis (deformed freak) and as her human form is quite significantly scarred (deformed freak!) she was always held at a distance and after a few years of traveling fairly aimlessly she was worded up to a sept in Melbourne called Grinding Stone with a shadowlord presence. Hoping to find some acceptance she made her way there and although she didn't find what she was looking for, she did find a friend in Will, and with him the knowledge that Sleeping Lore existed - and had a metis ahroun sept elder (Ian Shatterglass, Master of the Challenge). Sleeping Lore - both the sept itself and her new pack - are the closest she has ever felt to home.

First change: At 14 (metis time being what it is, that's about 7 rotations of the sun I believe) - still in assfuck nowhere Tasmania with, in Tillie's words, "a whole mess of tragic hillbilly werewolves with obvious brain damage" - she was taken to a clearing in the deep forest. Restrained to a tree (in crinos form, as all metis are prior to first change), she was shot twice at close range - once in the shoulder and once in the thigh. Although not unusual to force a first change, it was a particularly harsh method, especially when she broke free of the chains that bound her and hunted down and severely injured the supervising sept elder before she could be contained. This destroyed the last of any trust and respect she had for her sept (and others in general).

Resources: Tillie does "odd jobs" - for the sept and sometimes for her human/kinfolk biker friends. This has left her with enough cash or favours for a 10 year old bike (a black 2000 Suzuki Bandit), bought on the cheap and customized at home) and a room in a sharehouse where most of the appliances work. She lives with Finn and sometimes Will.

Appearance: Tillie looks to be about 19 and is fairly striking, in theory. Tall for a girl (5'10") with broad swimmer-esque shoulders, wide hips and thick, strong legs and long, straight dark hair that falls to her waist with a shock of white running through it in a single thick streak (almost always plaited back from her head), bright blue eyes and pale skin that is a good percentage tattoos - some tribal, some words, some animal, some flowers, some abstract design, a half sleeve (she gets the smaller tattoos in random studios ? ?I heal really quickly? ? but Alex at Sleeping Lore has done her bigger pieces). The first thing people notice, though, is that she is covered in scars - a set of long, thin white scars than run across her left cheek down her collarbone and under the neckline of her clothing, a network of crisscrossed scarring down her right shoulder and arm, quite obvious healed bitemarks on her neck and left wrist, large raised circles of skin on her left shoulder and right thigh, a tangle of thicker white lines down her left leg, and if her hair is out and you?re looking closely, a set of long thin scars along the back of her scalp where no hair will grow - and probably more besides, not that anyone gets to see. She owns a set of quite nice bike leathers (kevlar lined jacket and pants, helmet, boots, gloves - all black) and is otherwise to be found at home in cargo pants/shorts and a tank top/ripped shirt or in public in black skinny jeans, a long sleeved black shirt or checked flannel shirt and black leather jacket and boots. All the dresses she owns go from neck to wrist to ankle and have pockets ie. are purely functional. In wolf form she is large (especially for a female wolf) and dark except for a white, almost perfectly round patch on her belly and the fine white scars and marks that run through her fur, preventing hair growth.

Personality: Tillie is quick witted, caustic, often funny and more often quite mean. Gives very few fucks about what you or anyone else thinks but is fiercely protective of her sept and especially of her packmates, trusts almost nobody else. Her moral compass may not be aligned with the norm, but it is strong, and she is stubborn. She likes to fight and has been known to pick a fight on occasion.

Stuff: As previously mentioned, Tillie has a set of bike leathers and a bike. These are her Big Ticket Items and she doesn't own much of anything else, some clothes and whatever's in her half of the pantry. She has a Victorian car & bike ?license? ? and it?s a fake, albeit a pretty good one. She has a mirror, black dress and a pair of black combat boots dedicated currently, but is in the habit of changing her dedications often (monthly, or after anything where she might have ~come to the attention of the law~).

A day: Tillie's days are both predictable and variable - she is a late riser and an even later go-to-bed-er and doesn't really plan from one day to the next, preferring to allow things to happen as they will. Maybe she has a job to do for the sept, maybe she wants to go to the gym (small, local, cheap, lots of weights, no OHSE standards) or practice her fighting (consists mainly of sparring with Will and Iain), maybe she just wants to spend the day tinkering with her bike or riding around. She spends a fair chunk of time at the sept; that's where the least amount of people stare.

Allies: when Tillie first turned up in Sydney, she made friends with a silent strider named Sparky. He introduced her to the Rebels (a large "motorcycle club"), helped her fix her bike up and taught her how to do it herself, and was generally an all-around cool dude - and she, in return, helped him to.. collect.. debts. He owes her a favour - or maybe she owes him a favour - depends on who you ask. He?s based in Sydney, but like all silent striders, he?s a bit of a nomad and not really available at short notice.

Other: Tillie's metis deformity is, quite obviously, the scarring. Any lethal/aggravated damage will heal only part way on her body, leaving her with obviously marked skin in all her forms. When asked by garou/kinfolk about the scars, she will say "I'm a metis" and look them hard in the eye until they go away. When humans ask, she usually makes something up on the spot ("I was mauled by dogs" "it happened at birth" "you should never swim with the sharks at seaworld" "a wizard did it"). She's learned to dodge or hit first and hit hard, so it happens less these days, but you can't win every fight.

Sinead

Female, Homid, Theurge, Bone Gnawers

William Jackson

Male, Homid, Philodox, Get of Fenris
Birth date: 8/8/1989 (age 20)

History: Will grew up in Victoria Harbour, a seaside tourist town south of Adelaide, with his mother, brother and sister. His parents divorced when he was six and his father bought a farm out near Mildura. He spent his teenage years surfing, skipping school, chasing tourist girls and more surfing, or when he went up Mildura way to visit dad; hooning about in paddock bashers and shooting ferals.

Unbeknownst to Will his parents were both Get kinfolk, though there hadn't been a Garou among the Jacksons or Stahls for a few generations the Get still kept track of them. At a family reunion barbecue he was introduced to Lise, she wasn't a relative, but her parents were friends of the family or some such. Lise was tall, blonde, crazy strong, had a fondness for leather jackets, and a bunch of cool scars that looked like claw marks (she claimed they were caused by broken glass from a car accident).

Will and Lise were going out for about six months. She would disappear unexpectedly, for days at a time, then turn up unannounced with a bunch of bandages and a big grin on her face looking to get some. It was on one such occasion, while they were at it, that Will began his first change. He doesn't remember much of it, but when he came to, the room was trashed and there was a great hairy monster holding him against the floor.

The Get overlooked any possible litany breach, kinfolk change unexpectedly sometimes, not much you can do about it, and just got on with teaching Will about what he was. So for a time he lived at the sept and learned about Gaia, the Get of Fenris and the Wyrm, trained in kickboxing and prepared to join one of the Get packs. Though he was beginning to experience hallucinations of places he'd never been and people he'd never met. (ancestors background)

Will totally understood that he and Lise couldn't be together any more because they were spirit cousins, or something. He certainly wasn't going to do anything with her that would break the litany, he only went to her room to talk. He just wanted to sort it out so they could put it all behind them and move on, and it was only meant to be one last kiss goodbye. But when her packmate came in that last kiss was still going strong, and she had her hand down his pants whilst he was struggling with the clasp of her bra.

After beating the shit out of them, the Get decided that they had to be separated, and since Will was the packless cub, he was sent to another sept. The Fenrir pack at the sept of Grinding Stone, The Blood Claws, weren't keen on taking on some cub who had been (rumour had it) exiled from his sept for unspecified litany breaches, and Will for his part was struggling with disorienting flashes of other times and places which didn't help endear him to the Blood Claws. Here he met Matilda and though he was ashamed to learn more about Metis and the crap they have to deal with, he got on with her a lot better than with the Blood Claws.

As the intrusive flashes of ancestors and past lives became unbearable, Will resolved to relocate to the Sept of Sleeping Lore, where he hoped that the Stargazer mystics could help teach him to keep it together, here he met Finn, Kasumi and [Elinor's character]

Whether it's because he's learned greater self control, or perhaps replacing the spirit resonance of the war caern with that of the wisdom caern has helped to calm the ancestor spirits, but Will feels more stable and clear minded at the sept than any time since his first change.

Will considers (probably due to his Philodox nature) that a lack of self control and lack of respect for the litany has caused most of his problems up to this point, so is focused on rectifying that. His Get background shows through in that he considers any garou who can't fight well to be shirking their responsibilities.

Resources & accommodation: Will doesn't have dots in resources currently. He had a job back in SA before his first change but hasn't worked for a few months now. He has little in the way of savings, assets or disposable income. It galls him to accept charity however, so he's looking for work and I'll probably buy resources 1 fairly early. Currently he couch surfs, stays at the sept or if all else fails, sleeps in his car, once he has some more cash he'll probably look to move into a place with other pack members.

Appearance: Will is tall and athletically built, his skin is tanned from the sun, and his short, wavy hair is sun bleached, eyes are blue-grey. In wolf form his pure breed is obvious as a large grey wolf. His dedicated clothes are hiking boots, jeans, a faded black singlet, a brown leather jacket that Lise gave him, and a necklace he made from a shark tooth that he found on the beach and carved with garou glyphs. No tattoos or scars as yet.

Stuff: surfboard, surfboard wax, wetsuit, old Nokia phone

What's a day: Try to go surfing at least once a week when the swell is good, otherwise up at sunrise, meditate in the caern (or do other ancestor stuff with the Stargazers), spar with one of the sept Ahrouns (probably Matilda), look for a job, run errands for the sept.

Long term goals: Learn more about ancestor spirits and commune with them, enforce the litany, protect mother Gaia and destroy her enemies

Finn McKenzie

Male, Homid, Galliard, Fianna
Born: 22 June 1991 (Age 18.5ish)

History: Finn spent his formative years on a crop farm in a district somewhere between Port Fairy, Killarny and Warrnambool. Having not a great deal of interest in tending endless fields of potatoes, he turned towards music and other creative endeavours, much to the ire of his 'salt of the earth' parents. Still his aunt would take him off to performance classes, and later to the local Eisteddfod circuits, the prize money of which would become the backbone of his early income. His parents divorced in his mid-teens, so Finn opted to move with his mother into Port Fairy. This gave him an opportunity to immerse himself in the culture of his forebears and he would soon become a fixture at any fair, fete or festival either playing music or telling stories.

When he wasn't practicing, or buried up to his ears in old stories, his cousins would occasionally drag him out to go camping in the surrounding national parks. These testosterone fuelled weekends would often result in getting horrendously lost, trying to start campfires with bracken, and often eating cold tinned food. On the occasions where a fire did get going, they would tell stories, sing songs, and imbibe large quantities of cheap booze. This would often result in a little roughhousing, and Finn soon discovered that you didn't have to hit hard, but that you just had to keep getting up. His larger cousins would soon tire out.

His first change would occur in 2009. Finn had been away to university for six months and had returned home on the cusp of his 18th birthday. His cousins arranged another weekend away, this time to Tower Hill. Finns recollection of this night is patchy at best. The food seemed weird and seemed to awaken something inside him. Next thing he remembers is chasing a ball of light, through the shadows of the park, first as man then as something else. Finally he remember being pinned and dragged back to the campsite, then awakening all scratched up with a gash running diagonally across his shoulders. (Finn isn't aware, but his cousins forced the change, as he'd reached age 18 without it happening naturally. A combination of drugs and music tipped the scales, and he wandered off into the Umbra following a will o' wisp. His cousins had to bring him back and he was attacked by something).

He spent the remainder of the break with the Sept of Rippling Waters, and then deferred the next semester's study. Although he was prepared to drop out, the septs Gatekeeper Russel encouraged him to return to Melbourne and complete his History degree, and to basically learn all he could about the 'big city' Garou. He also put Finn in contact with the Sept of Sleeping Lore, through their Master of the Rite, who he was pleased to learn was one of his lecturers at the University. From here he met Kasumi, Will, Tillie & [Eli's Character].

Resources: Through a combination of Rural scholarships and being uncommonly lucky at open mic nights preforming epic poetry (the current favourite form of expression), Finn is able to afford some meagre off-campus accommodation, which is still near to the university. He tends to share the space with Tillie when she's around (despite having mixed feelings about metis ickiness, the jury is still out on that one) and Will when he's occupying the couch. The fridge is usually kept stocked, and he typically doesn't mind people helping themselves, provided they pitch in, or replace the stock. He typically PT's everywhere, although he does have a 2-stroke motorised bicycle for short trips around the suburbs.

Appearance: Finn about 5'9'', wiry, with a shock of red hair and a performers tenor. While the McKenzies lost the accent some time ago, a slight Irish twang appears whenever he is intoxicated or furious. Walking around most places has kept him in shape, without bulking him up. He tends to dress in denim and shirts, with a shock of red hair, and emerald green eyes. Aside from the scar across his shoulder from the first change, he also has some celtic knotwork tattoos across his back.

In wolf form his fur is deep red to auburn colour and he appears to be a little shorter compared to other male wolves. He has patterning on his back which resembles his tattoos. When he makes use of his Fae light gift they, and his eyes, glow green.

Personality: Although he exudes a confidence typical of performers, he still occasionally reverts to a 'country kid lost in the big city'. He'll tell and listen to stories with equal enthusiasm, and can knock back 'a wee dram' with the best of them. He's generally pretty friendly and fiercly loyal to those he considers kin, despite knowing that he?s likely to just get himself hurt. While he'll take advice readily, he tends try and weigh that up against his own experience, to make up his own mind.

A Day: Since most lectures are available online, Finn rarely attends them, and crams the remainder of his contact hours into one to one and a half days (this semester it's Monday & Tuesday morning!). Otherwise he's typically studying, practicing, or doing odd things for the sept. He swears sometimes it's just an excuse for Emma to assign extra 'essays'. Open mic nights are fairly frequent, and he doesn't mind missing a few while funds are good, although he'll attend them if he has nothing else to do.

Allies: Aside from his 'cousin' back home, who are probably too far away to help, Finn seems to have the greatest repour with Emma, who has acted as kind of a mentor since he arrived at the sept.
